The people who ran them won everything except power. On the night of September 10, the most powerful institution in Nepal was a chat app. Two days earlier the army had been firing into crowds. The government had banned 26 social platforms, the ban became the uprising, and Prime Minister Oli was gone within 48 hours, 76 dead by the army's own count. Now 100,000 people sat on a Discord server called Youth Against Corruption, choosing his replacement. Moderators ran deliberations like a caucus and streamed them live. The poll drew 7,713 votes. A 73-year-old retired chief justice named Sushila Karki took 3,833 of them, and on September 12 the president of the republic swore her in. The army held the intersections. The server held the mandate. The collapse is the familiar part by now. Two-day revolutions are the going rate. Watch what happened to the winners instead. Six months later Nepal voted for real, and the collectives that had picked a prime minister from their bedrooms took nothing at all. A party built quietly over the previous four years took 122 seats. That pattern, the fall and then the theft of the fall, has now run on four continents. This file prices it. If the median voter in your market is under 25, this is the file on your next two years. GenZ 212, the Moroccan collective that put 180,000 people on one Discord, refuses on principle to name leaders. The last Moroccan movement with a face watched that face get twenty years. Nothing to arrest, and every arrest made anyway becomes content. Each wave runs on a martyr the state supplies for free. Jakarta's was a 21-year-old motorbike-taxi driver named Affan Kurniawan. Four days after he died, his death had a document and a deadline, the 17+8 Demands, and Prabowo's government was negotiating with a PDF. Even the flag is deniable, a cartoon pirate skull from One Piece. Indonesian officials called it treasonous and did its marketing for a week. The students who broke Sheikh Hasina's fifteen-year rule paid a death toll the UN put above 1,400, then did the textbook thing. Built a party and contested the cleanest election the country has held in decades. Six seats. The BNP, the dynastic machine those same students grew up despising, took 209 of 297 on nothing more inspiring than candidates in every district and forty years of muscle memory. The revolution supplied the opening. The machine walked through it. Sofia is the one to study twice, because in Sofia somebody solved the inheritance problem on purpose. The fall was standard for the cycle. A budget that read as a corruption cover, the biggest crowds since 1989, the government gone in fifteen days. Then winter, three failed attempts to form a government, and a country stuck between a dead cabinet and a furious street. That's the vacuum. In January, President Rumen Radev looked at it and did something no head of state in post-communist Europe had done. He resigned the presidency to run for the mess below it. Clean hands, the protesters' own vocabulary, a new vehicle with his name on it. Twelve weeks from resignation to 44.6 percent and 131 of 240 seats, the first outright majority in Bulgaria since 1997. The reformists who actually marched got 37. Inheritance goes to whoever's name is on the paperwork when probate opens. National election commissions, February to April 2026. The counter-playbook Four survival plays are field-tested against this, and they don't grade evenly. Co-optation works. Ruto pulled his own finance bill in eight days, then spent nine months buying the opposition instead of the movement, cabinet posts included. A leaderless crowd can't be purchased. Every credible adult it might someday need can be, and Nairobi's streets have thinned to memorial marches. Attrition works and it's colder. Thailand's establishment lost February's referendum outright, six voters in ten for a full rewrite, then routed the mandate into three court-mandated referendums that run past 2028. The public voted for change and received a process. Outrage has a shelf life. Committees are refrigeration. Repression is a rental. Dar es Salaam held through a blackout and live fire because the services never cracked and the movement had no vehicle. It holds until one of those changes, and the meter runs at compound interest. Exit choreography is the coin flip, live in Belgrade. Vučić, 644 days into the biggest crowds since Milošević, has announced he'll resign within weeks. He set no date. He's found the one thing a leaderless movement can't organize, which is a deadline. § Operating Play If We Had an Incumbent's File Kill the trigger inside a week, whatever it costs in face. Ruto kept the presidency. Oli defended a platform ban for two days and lost his. Stop hunting for the head. There isn't one, and every arrest becomes content. Buy institutions and make the purchase public. If the fall turns inevitable, run the Radev. Pick the inheritor while you can. The demolition you can't stop, you can still develop.
